We believe musical learning is a transformative, deeply human journey — one built on creative curiosity, self expression and belonging to wider purpose and meanings. So we set out to design something different: a model that honors what's always mattered in music education, the people we experience music with.

Ben has experienced music education from every side. He learned musical practice from his family, took private lessons in music stores, and moved through programs like School of Rock and Berklee's Summer Performance Program. He started teaching as soon as he could; first private guitar lessons, then helping the founder of Rock U Paris teach kids to play together in bands.

After a BA (Hons) in songwriting, he spent years growing ICMP's portfolio of short courses — managing programs, developing new curriculum, and refining his own teaching practice along the way.

A PGCHE in education reshaped how he understood musical learning, connecting practice to theory and turning his vision for music education into an opportunity to design something new.

During his MA in Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship, he developed the research, theory, and vision behind a new model for learning music: collaborative education.

We believe meaningful learning doesn't happen simply because great information was delivered. It happens through meaningful relationships, conversations, reflection and real-world application done with purpose and presence.

Modelled on experiential learning theory and practice, every session is designed to move you through a cycle of turning musical practice into reflective understanding, and insight into new creative ideas.

01 Experience

Learning begins with concrete experience — doing, not just hearing about. In musicing, this means real musical practice with your mentor: playing, writing, or working through your project together.

02 Reflect

Reflection turns raw experience into insight, surfacing what worked, what didn't, and why. After each session, you and your mentor look back on what happened and what it revealed about your playing, writing, or process.

03 Understand

Understanding forms when reflection connects to broader concepts and ideas — the theory behind the practice. Your mentor helps translate what you've discovered into the musical concepts and skills that explain it.

04 Explore

New understanding opens the door to active experimentation, testing ideas in new contexts. You take what you've learned back into your own music — trying it out, pushing it further, and setting up the next experience.

Learning is a partnership.

We believe trust and communication are key to successful learning. With musicing, you and your mentor set the direction together, exploring your musical skills, knowledge, projects and practice as partners — wherever you are in your journey.

Below are the 3 core beliefs that underpin that partnership, and from which the whole model is built. They shape how we think about music, learning, and each other.

Everyone is a musician.

Music is a human act, one we all connect with in our own ways. We encourage every learner to explore their own journey toward becoming more musical, with creativity, purpose, and company.

There is always room for creativity.

Creative thinking is part of our nature, and it has a real place in how we learn. We believe it should be a meaningful part of every learner's journey with music.

Music brings us together.

Music has always brought people into connection with one another. We build on that moment, using it to enable learners and teachers to connect more meaningfully through music.

Now the model has a team.

We've brought together some of the greatest music teachers and most experienced music educators in the field to help us shape and explore this new model of learning. They are the leaders of musicing's educational impact.
